Outline
What will we see in works made of glass? What we discover there are: a form that looks about to move at any moment as if it were liquid, gravity that we are usually unaware of, movement and rhythm that we sense with engraving marks on the surface of the work and bubbles kept inside the work, gradual changes in scenery and time that we see through materials, light and color glowing toward the inside or outside, smooth and rough textures, and so forth. We discover such expressions that are possible because the material is glass. What’s more, by adding the viewer’s physical motion such as going around the work, looking into it, and viewing it from a distance, we can find movement and change as the artist intended or those which exceed the artist’s intention. A dialogue with the other or the self through an artwork is linked to an unexpected conversion of a viewpoint or rich expansion of thoughts and senses. Such movements and changes that we perceive visually, physically and mentally when viewing a work draw our consciousness toward the work and invite us to a deep world of the work.
In this exhibition, we introduce 24 artworks selected according to keywords ‘movement’ and ‘change.’ Through searching for movement and change in the works and visually following them, the viewer might find thoughts of the artists or interesting aspects and materials of the works that were not noticeable before.
