Outline
Toyama Glass Art Museum mainly collects contemporary glass artworks made in Japan and abroad since the 1950s. Artists who focus on artistic expressions using glass have been expanding their links crossing borders since the 1960s. Among them are Harvey K. LITTLETON of the United States and Erwin EISCH of Germany who started their lifelong friendship in 1962, and Stanislav LIBENSKÝ & Jaroslava BRYCHTOVÁ and René ROUBÍČEK of the Czech Republic who participated in Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada. Taking this opportunity, both European and American artists pursued their own expressions even further while being in touch with each other’s ideas and creative activities. In the collection exhibition this time, we introduce the artists’ rich expressions created in confronting the society and values surrounding them, while each of them pays attention to diverse cultures and ideas. In the special feature, we focus on Kyohei FUJITA, Japanese artist who actively worked on exhibitions and production of artworks abroad after he participated in an exhibition in Denmark in 1975.
